What is Spoken Word?

Spoken Word can encompass or contain elements of rap, hip-hop, storytelling, theater, and jazz, rock, blues, and folk music and more. It is characterized by rhyme, repetition, improvisation, and word play. The possibilities are endless, and this event is designed to provide a platform for YOUR version of Spoken Word.

This event will begin with the Open Mic segment, which allows anyone to present his or her work. No prior experience is necessary, and it does NOT have to be original work.

This will be followed by a fast-paced Poetry Slam competition. The winner of this head-to-head battle of words will be named the Champion of Champions.

This event is free, and no tickets are required. Light refreshments will be served. Save the date!

UNIFORM NOTE: THIS IS A CASUAL CIVILIAN EVENT
