Scholarly Articles, Books, and E-Books: Scout It Out!

You may use Scout or the Library's catalog to locate USMA Library resources in our collection of books and databases. Brainstorm some keywords based on what you already know, such as 'Operation Cobra,' 'Normandy breakout,' or 'Infantry operations Normandy.' Once you have a list of results, try limiting by "Peer reviewed" or "Scholarly Articles" to make sure the item you choose fits your paper requirements.

Books on the Library Shelves

When beginning a search for an aspect of Operation Cobra, brainstorm some keywords based on what you already know, being as broad as possible. For example, let’s suppose you’re interested in BOOKS that will describe infantry operations. Search the Library Catalog for some possible keywords/keyword combinations such as: ‘infantry Normandy,’ ‘breakout Normandy,’ and ‘Cobra breakout infantry.’ As you find sources that address specific units, leaders, or battles, you will start to note more specific keywords that you can use to do searching for more targeted sources, such as: ‘Mortain’ and  ‘Patton Normandy.’  Try a search yourself!
