Databases - Primary Sources

  • Archives Unbound Browse a topically focused digitized collection of historical documents. The collections cover a broad range of topics from the Middle Ages forward-from Witchcraft to World War II to twentieth-century political history. Particular strengths of this resource include U.S. foreign policy; U.S. civil rights; global affairs and colonial studies; and modern history.
  • Issues & Controversies in History - Users will find background, outcome, and contemporary points of view for every major debate and conflict in history. Topics are presented in a pro/con format that clearly explains both sides of the historical dispute, each article is supported by a timeline and a wealth of primary sources.
  • China: Trade, Politics and Culture, 1793-1980 Explore a collection of digitized primary sources depicting, from a primarily Western perspective, trade and cultural exchange with China from the 18th through the 20th centuries. Material types include correspondence, illustrations, maps, official papers, periodicals, personal accounts, manuscripts, photographs, and printed books. Original materials are from libraries and archives from around the world, including the School of Oriental and African Studies in London and the British Library.
  • Foreign Broadcast Information Service (FBIS) Daily Reports - Discover translated transcripts of foreign radio and television broadcasts, news agency transmissions, newspapers, periodicals, and government statements. The reports are from 1974-1996 and contain political, military, economic, environmental, and sociological news and information.


Databases - Secondary Sources 

  • Bibliography of Asian Studies - Explore a major multi-disciplinary index for the study of East, Southeast, and South Asia. It contains citations for Western-language journal articles, review articles, conference proceedings, chapters in edited volumes, and Festschrift published worldwide that relate to the study of Asia.
  • EBSCOhost Provides access to a wide range of databases, many with full text. Chose to search one database or search all.
  • Jane's - Source for information on defense, geopolitics, weapons systems, and security. Login with your westpoint.edu email address.
  • JSTOR - Provides access to scholarly journals and books in a wide range of disciplines 
  • Cambridge Histories Online - This collection consists of over 300 volumes from the Cambridge Histories series. The volumes are grouped by specific subject areas, making it quick and easy to search and browse through an array of historical topics.

Generative AI Tools

  • Keenious - Keenious is a new type of academic search engine that recommends relevant research papers by analyzing your document with powerful artificial intelligence algorithms.
  • Scite - Explore a Generative AI citation tool containing over 1.2 billion citations.  These "Smart Citations" provide the same bibliographic information as a regular citation, but they also include: 
    • How many times the publication was cited by others
    • How the publication was cited by others by displaying the text where the citation happened from each citing paper
    • Whether each citation offers supporting or contrasting evidence of the cited claims in the publication of interest, or simply mention it
  • JSTOR's Interactive Research Tool - JSTOR's new Generative AI-powered interactive research tool can provide a new way to engage with content, find related sources, and explore additional avenues of inquiry.
