Q: Will this replace the past requirement to submit each summer a collated collection of citations published/created during the previous year’s 1 July to 30 June timeframe? Or will we still be required to do that in addition?
A: Yes, Athena will replace the collated collection that used to occur in the summer. By consistently collecting submissions, we hope to ease the burden of pulling together a years' worth of citations over the summer months.
Q: Is there a method to batch submit rather than submit one-by-one? For instance, our department has already gathered all published works aggregated from 30 June 2023 through the present. Do I need to go back and submit each of those individually or can we wait to implement this system until the next window begins on 1 July 2024?
A: There is no way to batch submit, every submission needs to be completed by an author because the submission process contains legal agreements for use of the submitted works. This means that you would not be able to submit everything, the individuals who are publishing would need accounts to submit their own works. Then they are able to re-access, edit, remove, or add to every submission.
Q: I'm uploading my content for Dean's Celebration of USMA Scholars and Creators. Why can I not submit to that collection?
A: The collection for the Celebration of West Point Scholars and Creators is home to the digital program produced in conjunction with the Dean's Celebration of USMA Scholars and Creators event. Authors should submit their content to the appropriate department affiliated collection.
Any submissions made July of 2023 and prior were hosted by a previous system. These submissions have been retrieved and are being reformatted to fit the requirements of the new hosting site for the New Platform called Athena: USMA Scholarship.
The USMA Library Staff is working diligently to get these works posted to the new Athena: USMA Scholarship as efficiently as possible, ensuring all metadata is accurate and that any links are persistent and unbroken. We thank you for your patience as we go through this upgrade process with your valuable contributions.
