We currently reside in the era of Narrow or weak AI but this doesn't imply that AI-powered tools are ineffective. They are designed to perform highly specific tasks, often outperforming humans in speed and efficiency.
Manufacturing robots, self-driving cars, chatbots, and personal assistants like Alexa or Siri are only a few of the hundreds of NAI applications that exist today. NAI tools exist in nearly every field of work including education, healthcare, government, manufacturing, engineering, construction, business, the military, and computer science.
Certain tools, like self-driving cars, handle numerous tasks so well that it might appear they transcend narrow AI. However, they are actually composed of multiple NAI systems working in unison. Similarly, applications like Microsoft Copilot are multimodal and can generate text and images. This is not one type of GenAI that can do multiple things, rather it is multiple types of GenAI rolled into one tool.
While some of what is done with ANI seems like science fiction, most of the science fiction characters from movies are either General AI or Super AI. The Terminator, Wall-E, R2D2, Hal, Ava, C-3PO, Vision, and Baymax all are examples of these more advanced types of AI.
Artificial General Intelligence refers to a type of AI that can understand, learn, and apply knowledge across a wide range of tasks, similar to how humans think and reason. Unlike ANI, which is designed for specific tasks like facial recognition or playing chess, General AI would be capable of tackling any intellectual challenge a human could. AGI would have the ability to learn, progress, and advance its' abilities, like a human mind can.
Imagine a smart assistant that not only answers your questions but can also engage in complex problem-solving, learn new skills on its own, and adapt to unfamiliar situations. This AI would be able to transfer knowledge from one domain to another, just as a person might apply lessons learned in math class to solve a physics problem.
The applications of AGI are limitless. Discover how AGI has the potential to change various industries and sectors, but remember, AGI technology is currently only theoretical.
Artificial Super Intelligence (ASI), refers to a hypothetical future AI system that would surpass human intelligence in all areas. ASI would possess general cognitive abilities far exceeding those of humans and may be capable of comprehending and interpreting human emotions and experiences, creating its own emotional understanding, beliefs, and desires. In addition to raw intelligence, super AI could exhibit creativity and the ability to come up with novel ideas, far surpassing even the most innovative human minds. Super AI would be able to learn and adapt to new situations at a superhuman pace, continuously improving its capabilities. It would be able to self-direct its own learning and autonomously set goals.
There are many scientists who believe that ASI isn't feasible, that it will never be developed. Others believe that with the development of the right technologies, ASI is theoretically possible.
