Ithaka S+R is a non-profit research organization that works with academic and cultural institutions to provide information about technology specifically aimed at higher education. Their Generative AI Product Tracker is a document being constantly updated with new tools and apps based on generative AI language models. The table includes: the purchasing model, a description, key features, pros, limitations, comments, and the date the last entry was updated. Categories include:

  • General purpose tools
  • Discovery tools
  • Teaching and learning tools

The University of Sydney produced a table that consolidates apps by what they would be useful for.  The table includes links, cost and access, and highlights specific features of each tool. Categories include:

  • General generative AI apps
  • Tools for research
  • Tools for image generation
  • Tools for audio generation
  • Tools for video generation
  • Tools for 3d model generation
  • Tools for computer code generation

Prof. Niels Van Quaquebeke curated a list of AI Tools for Research Workflow in Academia. There are many elements of research covered in this list including:

  • Research and discovery
  • Data analysis
  • Prompting
  • Writing assistance
  • Note taking
  • Text transcription

The ROBOT method is a good way to determine if a particular AI tool is appropriate for the task.
